ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC) and Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI), with the support of the Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups, hosted the ‘International Workshop on Asia Environmental Technology Verification’ in Seoul on August 30th.

- The Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) is a policy that contributes to expediting ecotechnology development and the promotion of environmental industry as a 3rd party assesses the excellence of the eco technology, providing credibility to the technology user, and speedily supplying the eco technology in the industry field for the technology developer. Currently, the policy is applied in Korea, North America, Europe, and Japan.

Kim Sejong, the secretary general of ASEIC, revealed that “in the transition period for global environment and economy with the occurrence of sustainability development issues, climate change, and the 4th industrial revolution, there has been an increase in interest from Asian countries for Korean eco-innovation technology. In order to swiftly respond to such demand, we need international cooperation like the ‘international ETV mutual recognition’ that eradicates trade impediments through join verification of eco technology between countries.

Furthermore, experts from participating countries agreed on the necessity of mutual ETV cooperation between Asian countries and discussed the cooperative plans between Asian countries.

ASEIC plans to support the working-level cooperation related to ETV and to expand relevant discussions to Asia-European regions.
